PACE and ABE RECORDING SOLUTIONS

PACE and ABE RECORDING SOLUTIONS

Interviews under caution commonly known as "PACE interviews" is defined by Code C, within the Police And Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) document, as the questioning of a person regarding their involvement or suspected involvement in a criminal offence or offences. The Achieving Best Evidence (ABE) document describes good practice in interviewing victims and witnesses. AVET Recorders are designed to meet and exceed the requirements and guidance in both documents.

Value

AVET products are designed specifically to record interviews to evidential standards. All hardware and software are designed in-house precisely so that all functions and workflows protect the digital data and can be defended without question if ever required.

More than that, we have designed in-built safeguards for the interview recording. For example, in the event of a drive or disk failure the internal storage continues to record the interview, without affecting the evidential integrity, so that the recording can be recovered later. In the event of a local power failure, the internal batteries will continue to record the interview so that the interview process can be concluded properly. All this has been done within a framework that ensures AVET products are highly cost effective, configurable and reliable.

Challenge

When designing the new AVET recorders our engineers faced numerous challenges. How could we create secure, protected, portable, hard wearing and cost-effective solutions that could be configured to meet with UK as well as international judicial best practice well into the future? The answer was to start from scratch designing our own enclosures, printed circuit boards and software specifically to meet new requirements with easy upgrade paths. In addition, software enhancements we introduce will be compatible with AVET's new portfolio of products so that, although meeting customer requirements today, the units are easily configurable, even when deployed, for modifications to be installed.
